Is one day sufficient to acquire even one of these tremendous virtues successfully? Rav Eliyahu Lopian answers this question by presenting an interesting analogy relating to the laws of kinyan, "acquisition." Someone who wants to purchase an object can do so with a mere 1% down payment. The buyer can make the rest ake of the payment after a predetermined time period. The modest 1% down payment is significant in establishing a connection between the buyer and the item purchased Note: So each days focus makes a "down payment"

Rav Chaim Shmuelevitz explains that someone who thinks too highly of himself loses the ability to truly listen and absorb wisdom from others. This idea is illustrated by the general rule in the laws of kashering utensils - Eydi Dtaridi Liplot Lo Beluei -something excreting will not absorb. So too, one who is constantly speaking will struggle to absorb knowledge from others
